This is a family-favorite recipe that kids like to both help prepare and eat! Layer on the patties for adults for a hearty, filling sandwich like no other. The combination of ground beef with eggs, onions, and green peppers give this sandwich a burger texture and unique flavor! This recipe is a great way to feed a hungry family with just 1 lb ground beef and 1 dozen eggs.

Ingredients

Directions

Step 1

Break apart ground beef with a fork until separated into little pieces. (Kids can help!)

Step 2

Whisk eggs. (Kids can help!)

Step 3

Combine eggs with ground beef. Use fork to combine eggs while keeping ground beef from forming chunks. (Kids can help!)

Step 4

Add onion, bell pepper, salt, and pepper, stir. (Kids can help!)

Step 5

Heat griddle (or skillet) to 375°. Melt margarine, butter, or add olive oil.

Step 6

Scoop out 1/4 cup portions of the egg mixture. Fry on griddle like a pancake. When center of the egg mixture starts to thicken, flip over. You can also check the bottom of the egg patty to see if it is starting to brown, if so, flip. Flip again once the other side is browned and cooked through.

Step 7

Top a hamburger bun with condiments and toppings of your choice.

Cook's Notes

This recipe creates 18-22 patties. Kids normally eat 1 patty while adults eat 2-3 per serving. Serve hot like a burger or eat cold for lunch the next day. This is a family favorite for generations, hot and cold. Traditionally, it is served with a Miracle Whip mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. To spice it up, add hot sauce. You can also serve with traditional hamburger toppings including ketchup, mustard, onions, and pickles. You can also add minced garlic to the batter for more flavor. This recipe offers a great opportunity to teach young children the basics of cooking - how to whisk eggs, how to combine ingredients, how to measure, and how all the rare ingredients come together to make a delicious meal. For older kids and teens, teach them the proper handling of a knife and how to dice onion and green bell peppers. Teens may also be able to help with the griddle, with supervision. Offer a variety of toppings for kids to create their perfect sandwich. When kids help in the kitchen, they are more apt to try new recipes and eat healthier.
