DIY Coffee Mug Bird Feeder

Many of us have extra coffee mugs crowding our kitchen cabinets. Let your kids turn one (or more) into a bird feeder to bring colorful birds into your yard this season. This DIY activity is easy to do that parents can help younger kids and teens can make on their own.

This DIY activity is part of Summit Metro Parks At Home in Nature programming. Check out all of our Virtual Learning resources for local museums, zoos, parks, theaters, and more.

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl
  2. Press mixture into coffee mug
  3. Add a stick for a perch for the birds.
  4. Hang in a tree or shrub near a window so you can enjoy watching the birds (and squirrels)!

Recipe Notes:

This recipe is easy to make and birds will enjoy it. You can also add raw peanuts, raisins, dried fruit, and other ingredients. This recipe makes enough mixture for 4-5 coffee mugs. Keep remaining mixture in an air-tight container in your refrigerator.
