The opening weekend of the new Acme Fresh Market brought shoppers from near and far to check out the new store.

Acme 21 officially opened Oct. 16 at 3875 Massillon Road in the Heritage Crossings development, but celebrated the new store with food samplings, prizes and games for children Oct. 18 and 19.

Store director Jim Pearl is looking forward to the opportunity to lead the new Green store.

“I’m excited to be in this community, the community of Green is in for a treat,” Pearl said. “There are a lot of associates here who care.”

Pearl feels this store stands out because of the prepared foods, deli, meat and bakery areas of the store.

For Acme President Jim Trout, there were more than a few challenges while building the new store.

“The biggest challenge was the severe winter that we did not predict and it threw the entire project months behind as we wanted this store open in July,” Trout said. “There was 30 inches of ice below the surface.”

Shoppers to the new store are impressed with the design and wide array of products offered.

“I love the layout, the aisles are wide and the beer selection is amazing,” Kelly Schultz said.

Green resident Sonia Wells was impressed most by the large selection and low prices.

“The Green Bulldog merchandise is great,” Wells said. “I like the layout, but I do have to say the only thing that I don’t like was that it was white everywhere and I wish they had gone with dark ceilings.”

The weekend events featured more than 15 free food samples, featuring many products exclusive to Acme such as Acme Fresh Market buffalo wings, Acme Fresh Market salsa, and Acme Fresh Market Deli-Fresh Pizza. Other samples came from local partners Pav’s Ice Cream and Acme Fresh Market coffee, locally roasted by Pearl Coffee in downtown Akron.

Wesley Simpkins found the store to be amazing.

“It is convenient, well-labeled and they handed me an aisle grid when I walked in,” Simpkins said.

Brian Polinger also gave the store a good review saying he liked how the store was so open.

Shoppers also had the opportunity to spin the prize wheel. There were also games for children and photo opportunities with Acme’s mascots Buck and Buffy.

“Over the next few weekends, we will have free, exciting activities for kids and adults,” Katie Swartz, director of marketing at Acme Fresh Markets said. “Customers should look for details in their grand opening ads or on acmestores.com.”

Swartz said kids and customers had a lot of fun during the opening weekend.
