Portage Sheriffs Office to “Cram the Cruiser” Dec. 7th for Needy Families at Christmas

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office will hold its fifth annual Christmas “Cram the Cruiser” fund-raiser and food donation event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 7, at the Acme Fresh Market store at 1709 E. Main St. in Franklin Township.

Volunteers from the sheriff’s office will be collecting canned goods, non-perishable food items and cash donations, all to benefit clients of Kent Social Services and the Center of Hope in Ravenna and area residents in need this Christmas season.

Sheriff David Doak said canned goods donated at a similar drive prior to Thanksgiving helped provide food baskets for 800 families.

“We have been informed by the social service agencies that they currently have Christmas requests for approximately 1,000 families,” he said.

Santa Claus also will stop by the store between 12:30 and 2 p.m. to meet those who stop by to donate.

“I would like to invite all from the Portage County community to stop by to drop off canned goods and non-perishable items for those in need, and at the same time visit with me and members of my staff,” Doak said.
